SAS 8: How to Stay Calm and in Control Before the Holidays

When the Holidays Start to Feel Like a Job

Every year, the same cycle sneaks up on us. The daylight gets shorter, our lists get longer, and before we even realize it, we’re running a full-time operation trying to make everyone’s holiday special. We’re organizing events, buying gifts, hosting dinners, and managing emotions. Somewhere in the middle of all that, our own peace gets lost in the shuffle.

This isn’t about being lazy or disorganized; it’s about the invisible load that women carry. The emotional and mental labor of keeping everyone else’s experience joyful often leaves us depleted.

The Problem: The Invisible Load of the Season

Even when you try to slow down, there’s still pressure to make every moment magical. The decorations, the meals, the gifts, they all add up. When you overextend yourself, the joy quickly turns into guilt, resentment, or exhaustion.

Maybe you’ve lived both sides too. The years you waited until mid-December to pull it all together probably felt stressful and rushed, while the years you planned ahead brought more calm and clarity. The difference wasn’t perfection, it was intention.

The Solution: Simplify, Don’t Strive

Simplifying doesn’t mean giving up; it means creating space for what truly matters. Start with clarity. Take a few quiet minutes to list your top three priorities for the rest of the year, both personally and professionally. Then, circle the ones that matter most and cross out anything that doesn’t support them.

Ask yourself: If I could feel one thing this season—peaceful, present, or joyful—what would it be?

Tools That Make It Easier

To make this season lighter, I created the Complete Celebration & Lifestyle Tools Bundle, a collection of seven custom GPTs designed to take mental load off your plate. Here’s a glimpse:

  • The Boundaries Coach: helps you confidently say yes or no to invites and obligations.

  • Anti-Panic Cleaning Plan: a realistic prep guide for when company’s coming.

  • Gift Guru: a budget-friendly gifting assistant that tracks ideas, budgets, and timing.

  • Healing Through the Moments: gentle support for heavy or complicated seasons.

  • Feast Without Fear: menu planning help for families managing food allergies or preferences.

  • Deadline Defender: keeps your personal and professional deadlines in check.

  • Well-Said Card Buddy: helps you write meaningful notes and messages without overthinking.

These tools were built for more than just the holidays. They work for birthdays, graduations, and any life event where planning feels like too much.

The Reset Exercise

Take ten minutes for a reset:

  1. Write down your top three priorities for the rest of the year.

  2. Circle what truly matters.

  3. Cross out what doesn’t align.

  4. Decide how you want to feel this season and protect that.

Wrap Up

You don’t need to do it all to make this season meaningful. The most peaceful holidays come from knowing what deserves your attention and letting go of the rest.

“Calm doesn’t come from getting it all done. It comes from deciding what deserves your attention.”
