9: Don’t Get Left Behind | AI for Women 40+

Most women in midlife are juggling a full schedule. Work, family, caregiving roles, and planning what comes next. No wonder technology sometimes feels like another thing to learn. But here is the truth a lot of us are missing: ignoring AI will cost us more time than learning it ever will.

Recently I came across data that stopped me in my tracks. Men are adopting AI faster than women, and that gap is increasing. In one global study, half of men had used generative AI in the past year, compared to just over one-third of women. In another survey in the United States, the gap was even wider. And it does not stop at gender. Younger people are adopting AI far faster than those of us in midlife.

This matters. Women in midlife are carrying the heaviest load. We are working, raising families, supporting adult kids, sometimes caring for aging parents, and trying to make space for our next chapter. We do not have time to fall behind on something that can actually make life easier.

AI is not about becoming technical. It is about removing friction. Think of it like the calculator. Using one did not mean you could not do math. It meant you could do it faster, with less stress, and spend your energy on more important things.

I use AI daily, not to do my thinking for me, but to speed up the parts that drain time. Idea generation for my podcast and blog. Outlining content. Simplifying titles. Checking search terms. Creating project checklists. Planning timelines. Comparing articles. Turning scattered thoughts into a plan I can follow.

Here is a real example. I had a list of topics I wanted to cover from mid-October through the holidays. I plugged them into ChatGPT, asked it to map them out week by week so I would enter January ready for a fresh pivot, and it built the structure for me in minutes. My ideas. My strategy. A faster path to execution.

This is not about tech enthusiasm. It is about efficiency and clarity. The mental load is real. AI lightens it.

If you have never tried AI intentionally, start small. Open a free tool like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Bing Copilot, or Google Gemini and test prompts like:

  • Help me plan my week so I have one hour a day to focus on my next chapter. My top three priorities are [insert your priorities].

  • Then follow up with:

  • What is one way I can simplify my routine to create more time and energy for this goal?

  • Or use it in everyday moments:

    • I have chicken, asparagus, and rice. Give me three recipe ideas that feel easy and fresh.

Is every result perfect? No. But it gets you unstuck, saves time, and builds momentum.

If you are in your forties, fifties, or beyond, you remember when people dismissed the internet. You also saw who got ahead by adopting it early. This moment is similar. AI will not replace your instincts, experience, wisdom, or creativity. It will support them. And frankly, women deserve that support.

Try it. Test it. See how much lighter your week feels when you take just one repetitive task off your plate.

If you want more guidance, explore my tools and free resources that help you simplify planning, events, seasons, and personal growth without burning out. Women in midlife do not need to work harder. We just need smarter systems.

And I promise, AI can be one of them.
