December: Five Small Ways to Create a Calm, Joyful December
My favorite natural simmer scent with cranberries, oranges, and rosemary.
Welcome December! December is one of my favorite months, despite being cold. Are you ready to jump into the holiday season and keep some periods of self-care in mind, too? Then read on…
1. Try a 15-minute holiday reset
Set a timer for 15 minutes. Light a candle. Turn on a favorite Christmas playlist. Tidy one small area. Not the whole house. Just one space.
This creates a visible win that instantly shifts your mood.
2. Choose a go-to holiday mug
Pick one mug you love and make it your December sidekick. Coffee, cocoa, tea, cider. Whatever fits the moment.
It sounds simple, but rituals anchor us. Reaching for the same mug becomes a quiet reminder to slow down and enjoy the season.
3. Add one unexpected holiday touch
Not everything needs to be fully decorated. Sometimes one small, surprising detail feels more special.
A bow on the bathroom mirror.
Fairy lights on a bookshelf.
A sprig of greenery on a nightstand.
These little touches feel personal and joyful without creating more work.
4. Keep a “magic moments” note
Use your phone or a small notebook and jot down the tiny moments as they happen.
A laugh in the car.
A quiet morning.
A kind comment.
A peaceful night at home.
You don’t need to write a novel. Just enough to remember. By the end of the month, you’ll have something far more meaningful than a perfectly executed holiday plan.
5. Prep a simple holiday helper kit
Put tape, scissors, tags, pens, and gift wrap essentials in one tote or basket.
This is one of those small setups that saves a surprising amount of stress later. Future-you will be grateful when wrapping day arrives.
Keep It Simple. Keep It Yours.
December doesn’t have to be packed full of activities to be meaningful.
You’re allowed to skip what doesn’t serve you.
You’re allowed to simplify traditions.
You’re allowed to choose downtime.
The goal is to experience and enjoy Christmas.
As the month unfolds, I’ll be sharing thoughtful, seasonal inspiration here on the blog and in the newsletter. Nothing overwhelming. Just steady ideas to help you move through December with more ease and intention.
Let this be the season where you enjoy the moments instead of managing them.
If you ever feel yourself slipping into rush mode, come back to one small ritual and start there.
That’s more than enough.
